A fire that started in a wall behind some electrical boxes Thursday afternoon knocked out power to a Hewitt Dairy Queen, forcing the restaurant to close temporarily.

Three employees and several customers escaped safely after fire broke out at the restaurant at 200 Legacy Dr., just off Interstate 35 near the Hewitt Walmart Supercenter.

A smoking refrigerator alerted workers to the fire, one employee said.

Hewitt firefighters quickly extinguished the flames.

An Oncor crew was at the scene, but the business will remain closed until a regional manager arrives to consult with Oncor about the best course of action to take.
