Two Belton firefighters came to the rescue twice after a local man fell while sodding his yard, first taking him to the hospital and then returning to finish the job he started.

Capt. Justin Porter and Firefighter Jeff Glover responded after the man was injured when he slipped and fell in the mud as he was laying sod in the front yard of his home.

After taking the man to the hospital, the two firefighters went back to his home and finished the job.

Porter said they knew the man wasn't going to be able to finish his yard work because of his injuries.

“We don't do this job for the fame and fortune, we just knew it was the right thing to do, so we went over there and helped him out we didn't think twice about it,” Porter said.

Porter says it only took 30 minutes of their time and it was well worth it.

Firefighters, he says, work for local residents and this is just part of their job.
