ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) Republican political leaders are distancing themselves from a Florida congressional candidate who sent a fundraising letter stating “anti-American radical Democrats” should be hung for treason.
Local GOP leaders said Wednesday that no one should ever condone a candidate's call for violence.
The National Republican Congressional Committee also responded by removing the candidate from a GOP mentoring program.
George Buck is one of six Republican primary candidates for Florida's 13th Congressional District.
He referred to several Democrats but in particular to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
Omar was born in Somalia and came to the US as a child.
