WESTPHALIA, Texas (KWTX) A flu outbreak has forced the small Westphalia ISD to cancel classes for the remainder of the week and to cancel a Thursday night basketball game, as well.

“Due to the large percentage of students that have flu or strep throat in our district, Westphalia ISD is going to close for Thursday and Friday,” Superintendent Robert Hudson said in a Facebook post Wednesday.

“The student holiday on Monday, will allow five days for the illness to hopefully decrease significantly. Extensive cleaning of all facilities and buses will be done during the break to help stem the virus,” he said.

“We will not have to make the days up due to extra minutes built into our schedule.”

The small district in rural Falls County has fewer than 160 students, according to the Texas Education Agency.
