Fort Hood hospital unit among several sent to areas hit hard by COVID-19

FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) The Army is sending several hospital units including one from Fort Hood to two areas of the country hit hard by the new coronavirus.

Deployment orders were issued to Fort Hood’s 9th Hospital as well as the 531st Hospital from Fort Campbell, Ky., and the 627th Hospital from Fort Carson, Colo.

More than 25 personnel from Fort Hood deployed Wednesday to Fort Dix, N.Y., and another 275 will follow in the days ahead.

"Army health care professionals are adequately equipped with first-rate training, equipment and technology in order to deal with emergent health issues," said Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy.

"Protecting the health of the force and the American people are our top priorities.

The units have full hospital capacity including intensive care unit and intermediate care unit beds, operating rooms, emergency departments, X-ray facilities and a pharmacy.

They’re designed as trauma hospitals, but can function as full-service hospitals with as many as 240 beds.
