Four arrested in theft of local firefighter’s truck
Four suspects, including a man who accidentally shot himself in the leg with a stolen gun as he tried to flee from officers, are jailed in connection with the theft of a local firefighter’s pickup on Dec. 10 from outside the Temple fire station where it was parked.
A Belton officer was preparing to pull the stolen truck over at around 9:55 a.m. on Dec. 10 when the driver stopped and the four people riding in the pickup got out and ran, officials said.
Officers captured one of the four, identified in an arrest warrant affidavit released Monday as Ryan Reed, 21, and found the second, identified in the affidavit as Dakota Castleman, 21, with a gunshot wound a short distance away.
The other two occupants of the stolen truck, identified in the affidavit as Logan Stratton, 22, and Raven Sizemore, 19, escaped, but were later arrested.
Castleman was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple and then was transferred to the Bell County Jail.
Reed was taken to the Bell County Jail where a jailer who searched him found a bag of suspected methamphetamine, the affidavit says.
Sizemore admitted to investigators that Castleman arrived at her home driving the stolen truck and told her that he had found the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado with the keys and a pistol in it, the affidavit says.
She told investigators that she and Castleman took turns driving the truck and said she was at the wheel when the Belton officer pulled the pickup over.
Castleman, who’s a convicted felon, later told investigators that he “had found the keys in the truck and ‘taken…off,’” the affidavit says.
“Castleman stated that he had gotten the gun from the center console of the vehicle.”
Castleman is held in the Bell County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $56,500 charged with driving with a suspended license, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and burglary of a vehicle.
Reed is held in lieu of bonds totaling $53,000 charged with violation of a protective order, false report and burglary of a vehicle.
Sizemore is held on bonds totaling $30,000, charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and burglary of a vehicle.
Stratton is held in lieu of $7,000 bond on an unspecified charge and a burglary of a vehicle charge and without bond on an outstanding warrant.
