Riesel: Fundraiser held for police chief seriously injured in accident

WACO, Texas (KWTX) Riesel police chief Danny Krumnow says he is lucky to be alive, after suffering serious injuries in a fatal accident last month.

Saturday Krumnow attended a benefit at Tradinghouse Bar & Grill, that was held in his honor.

Wednesday he returned home after almost a month in the hospital and rehabilitation.

Krumnow suffered a lacerated spleen, a broken back, a dislocated knee, a collapsed lung and nine broken ribs just before 2 p.m. on Oct. 11 when he and Jones were struck by a hydroplaning Mazda sedan as they assisted a driver whose vehicle evidently slid off the road at State Highway 6 and County Road 109 south of Riesel.

Jones died at the scene.

Krumnow was flown to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco and then later to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, where surgeons removed his spleen.

Krumnow was overcome with emotion Saturday, and thanks everyone for the overwhelming amount of support he's received.
