GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) Michael Lee Luna, 41, of Gatesville, who was convicted of tampering with/fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair, was sentenced late Tuesday evening to 40 years in prison and 20 years for possession of a controlled substance.
The sentences, which will be served concurrently, are based on enhancements for prior convictions, Coryell County District Attorney Dustin Boyd said in a press release Wednesday.
The charges stem from a traffic stop on July 15, 2018 on U.S. Highway 84 where a Department of Public Safety trooper pulled Luna over for speeding on a motorcycle.
“While attempting to stop Luna, the DPS trooper saw what appeared to be objects being thrown from Luna’s bike,” Boyd said.
The trooper later found a broken meth pipe in the same area where he saw Luna throwing the objects, Boyd said.
Subsequent tests showed there was less than a gram of methamphetamine in the pipe.
