GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) As work resumes on the $44 million dollar addition to Coryell Memorial Hospital, Richardson based Skiles Group, which has taken over the construction, has completed a new cafeteria, the first part of the new complex to open to staff and patients, hospital spokeswoman Carly Latham said Tuesday.

The Coryell Cafe and a connecting hallway to the older part of the hospital are now open.

Work was halted on the 117,000-square-foot expansion after an explosion in the not-yet-completed Central Utilities Plant building on June 26th, 2018 that claimed the life of three workers and left 13 injured.

The expansion and renovation project includes new operating rooms, a new 25-bed hospital wing, administration offices, a 16-bed rehab facility and the new central plant that will house chillers and boilers.
