WACO, Texas (KWTX) Berlin-based ZinkPower announced Wednesday that it plans to build a hot-dip galvanizing facility on a site on Mars Drive in Waco to serve the structural steel industry that will create 100 new jobs over the next four years.

Hot-dip galvanizing is a process in which steel is coated with molten zinc to protect against corrosion.

The company, a unit of the Australian group Kopf, plans to invest $32 million in the 160,000-square-foot facility, which will be the only hot-dip galvanizing operation between Dallas and San Antonio.

The Waco-McLennan County Economic Development Corporation is providing a $700,000 job creation grant to the company, the cost of which was split between the city and the county.

The city also agreed to tax incentives based on the company’s investment commitment.

ZinkPower operates at 45 sites in 12 countries.
