An 11-year-old girl who was injured in a two-vehicle crash was taken to a local hospital and her mother was arrested and charged with intoxication assault, Bellmead police said Wednesday.
Shannon Leann Thorpe, 33, who, police say, is also known as Shannon Zuniga, was in the McLennan County Jail Wednesday.
She’s also charged with DWI with child under 15 years of age, according to online jail records.
The second charge was filed Wednesday.
The accident occurred at around 10 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Bellmead Drive and Williams Road.
Officers found Thorpe standing outside of her vehicle and inside the car found the girl, who was complaining of a head injury, police said.
Thorpe “displayed signs of intoxication,” police said, and at the McLennan County Jail she was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.207, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08, police said.
The girl was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and her father was contacted, police said.
