Grand Ole Opry hosts Troy Gentry tribute concert

NASHVILLE (AP) Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry is touched that musicians who are always on the move were willing to come together to remember his late musical partner, Troy Gentry.

Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Jimmie Allen, Rascal Flatts, Jon Pardi, Chris Janson and Dustin Lynch were among the acts who played the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Wednesday as a fundraiser for a cancer foundation named for Gentry.

Allen says he recalls being frustrated that his blend of rock and country was not getting attention,

He says Gentry told him to stay the course because everyone thought Montgomery Gentry was a rock band when they started.

Bentley says he remembers being wide-eyed when he first met Montgomery Gentry at a Florida festival.

He says there was debris and Jim Beam all over their bus and it was "a big party."
