TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) The gun with which a Temple High School student was caught had a round in the chamber, eight rounds in the magazine and was equipped with a laser attachment, according to an arrest affidavit released Wednesday.
A tip from a classmate led to the arrest of James Godfrey, 18, on Oct. 2.
The student told the school’s resource officer that he saw three teenagers in a bathroom and that one had a gun.
Officers detained Godfrey and found the handgun inside a blue Chromebook case, the affidavit said.
The two students with Godfrey were searched, but neither had weapons, the affidavit said.
As he was being taken to the Bell County Jail, “Godfrey admitted that he brought the gun from home, the gun belonged to his grandmother, and he was carrying the gun for protection,” the affidavit says.
Godfrey remains in the Bell County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bond charged with possession of a weapon in a place where weapons are prohibited.
