Police make arrest after local man ambushed, shot in garage of home

A suspect was in custody after a gunman who was waiting in a garage shot a 34-year-old man repeatedly as the victim returned home early Tuesday morning in Bellmead.

Sean Xavier McGrath, 31, was in the McLennan County Jail Tuesday evening.

He’s held on a Lacy Lakeview charge of evading arrest with a previous conviction and is facing an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge in connection with the shooting, which was reported at around 5 a.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of Pawnee Street.

The gunman fled after the victim was shot.

The unidentified victim was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center where he was in stable condition Tuesday evening.

Lacy Lakeview officers and McLennan County deputies arrested McGrath at around 11 a.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Cherokee in Elm Mott, police said.
