Hamilton County’s sheriff is warning residents of a phone scam that has surfaced in other Central Texas counties.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has received a number of reports from residents who said they received calls from someone claiming to be a sheriff’s deputy who told them they needed to pay warrant fines and fees.

The sheriff’s office doesn’t collect money for warrants and would never call to try to collect fines and fees, Sheriff Justin Caraway said Thursday.

“Do not provide anyone with your financial information under these circumstances,” he said.
