A Hamilton man has died in a grain silo accident despite a desperate effort to rescue him from the grain under which he was buried.
David Amaro, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene at the silo a half mile outside of Hamilton on FM 932.
“We just couldn't get him out quick enough,” said Hamilton County Sheriff Justin Caraway, one of the first responders who jumped inside the silo in an effort to save Amaro.
The accident happened Wednesday evening while the employee of Bottlinger Grain Company was inside a silo secured by a rope while grain was pouring in.
Authorities say the rope gave way and he fell into the grain and was quickly covered.
Firefighters from Hamilton, Hico, Jonesboro and Coryell County responded
Amaro was extricated about two hours after the accident.
“It’s just a tragic incident,” Caraway said.
“Our prayers go out to the Amaro and Bottlinger families,” he said.
