Victim of deadly head-on crash on rural Central Texas road identified

A head-on crash Tuesday morning between a GMC Acadia and a Dodge Journey on a rural road north of Mart killed one person and sent two others to a Waco hospital.

Authorities Tuesday afternoon identified the man who died as Michael Griffin, 53, of Mart.

The accident happened at around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday on FM 939 south of Thompson Road, the Department of Public Safety said.

The Dodge Journey that Griffin was driving was southbound on FM 939 and the GMC was northbound when Griffin’s vehicle crossed the center stripe, Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ryan Howard said.

Griffin died at the scene.

A man and woman who were riding in the GMC were taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco.

Their names weren’t released.

Their injuries weren't believed to be life-threatening, the DPS said.
