Hewitt Public Library's summer reading theme of 2018 will be "Libraries Rock".

"One of our missions at the Hewitt Public Library is to spark that enthusiasm in children for reading and their books," says Amber Wilhite of Children's Services.

"We thought, 'Wow Dwayne Johnson could spark some enthusiasm- real quick!"

The staff would like to draw more attention to reading and resources at the library by incorporating a visit from Dwayne Johnson with the summer program.

They are asking everyone to either post a video or message to social media, requesting that he come visit using the #hewittwantstherock and also tagging @hewittlibrary & @TheRock in the posts.

Organizers would like to flood Mr. Johnson with the posts Tuesday and Wednesday.

The library is even offering help with making videos for the campaign.

Wilhite says they got creative with the campaign because it's important to keep kids engaged when they are out of school.

"One thing that coming to the library and reading during the summer does, is keep all that knowledge, fluency, comprehension and literacy in their brains- so that when they start school the teachers don't have to spend the first month catching up," she says.

She explains that the campaign is not just limited to a grade or exam, it's geared toward long-term goals for students.

"Literacy is important- it's really about setting you up for success in your entire life."

She hopes the campaign will successfully get "The Rock" to show up, show out, and get kids excited about books.
