HEWITT, Texas (KWTX) The Hewitt Police Department's National Night Out event has been ranked 22nd in the United States and fifth in Texas.

The department made the announcement Tuesday after receiving the award from the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).

The department has been recognized for its National Night Out event for 10 consecutive years.

The event at Warren Park on Aug. 3, 2019, included live music, games, dog micro-chipping, food and $1 raffle with big prizes.

"Thank you to everyone who volunteered, sponsored and attended our Hewitt National Night Out Kick-Off Party and block parties," police Chief Jim Devln said.

The city’s next Night Out event is in August.

National Night Out was created nearly two decades ago to build relationships between police and the communities they serve with a goal of making neighborhoods safer.
