WACO, Texas (KWTX) Police Tuesday identified a man who was struck and killed by an 18-wheeler on State Highway 6 in Waco as Stetson Don Hoskins, 24, and said their investigation indicates he stepped in front of the rig deliberately.

Hoskins was a transient from the Waco area, police said.

“Early indications and witness interviews, lead us to believe that Mr. Hoskins was in the midst of a mental health crisis. It is thought that he intentionally stepped in front of the oncoming 18-wheeler,” police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

The accident happened just after 3 p.m. Friday on Highway 6 southbound near Highway 84 across from the Richland Mall.

Officers diverted traffic onto the access road until around 5:20 p.m. when the highway was reopened.
