BELTON, Texas (KWTX) Ronal Norwood, 61, was in the Bell County Jail Wednesday charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death in connection with a hit-and-run in Belton that killed 13-year-old Richard Snyder.

His bond was set at $500,000.

Snyder died early Sunday morning of injuries he received when a pickup struck him as he rode his bicycle Friday evening in the area of the 7-Eleven store at 2701 Interstate 35 Frontage Rd. in Belton.

He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in critical condition.

Romer said the man driving the truck came to the police department Saturday and said he was involved.

The red 2007 Chevy 1500 he was driving at the time of the accident was impounded.

Romer said there is no evidence that alcohol was a factor.

Belton ISD Superintendent Susan Kincannon said Monday she was saddened to learn that a middle school student who was struck by a hit-and-run driver had died.

Sunday was the boy's 13th birthday.

“His family, his friends and all who knew him have been in my thoughts and prayers,” Kincannon said Monday.

“This is a terrible tragedy, and it has affected not just South Belton Middle School, but families and staff members all across our district as well as the police officers who protect and serve our families."
