Interstate 35 chase ends in crash

A pursuit early Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 35 ended when the fleeing driver’s car crashed on the southbound highway at the University Parks Drive exit.
A KWTX reporter at the scene said it appeared several vehicles were involved in the crash.
An ambulance was dispatched to the crash scene, but it wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was injured.
The chase started just before 1:15 p.m. Wednesday in McLennan County after a Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to pull the driver over for following too closely, DPS Sgt. Robbie Barrera said.
The driver led officers north into Hill County and then back into McLennan County.
After the crash, the driver attempted to run, but officers caught him.
Deric Gilyard, 46, was taken to a local hospital to be checked out and then was taken to the McLennan County Jail.
He remained there Wednesday night on tampering with physical evidence and evading arrest charges.
The crash backed up southbound traffic on the highway into Bellmead.
The crash scene was cleared by 3 p.m., the Texas Department of Transportation said.
