McLennan County Sheriff's Office has opened an investigation after an inmate was somehow burned.

The incident happened at the Jack Harwell Detention Center, officials said, but no exact date was given.

Kevin Kirven, who is jailed on assault charges, was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center to be treated for burn-related injuries.

However, it's unclear how the injuries occurred.

Sheriff Parnell McNamara says deputies are trying to "get to the bottom of what happened" and are actively investigating.
