Josh Abbott Band cancels Heart O’ Texas Fair show after Vegas rampage

A replacement act was scheduled Thursday after the Josh Abbott Band canceled its appearance at the Heart O' Texas Fair and Rodeo because of the deadly shooting rampage in Las Vegas.

Adam Hood, a singer-songwriter from Opelika, Ala., whose albums include "Welcome to the Big World," "Different Groove," "21 to Enter," "Adam Hood," and "6th Street," will step in for the band.

The band's manager said members need time to recover mentally from the shooting at the end of the three-day Route 91 Harvest Festival at which they performed.

“This week has been emotional as we try to process what happened. It would be disingenuous for us to pretend like this is a normal week of shows. It wouldn't be fair to you the fans or to ourselves,” Mark Noel of Triple8Management said in a statement Thursday.

“We will resume touring on October 14th in Houston. We apologize for any inconvenience, but this is the right decision after the tragedy that just occurred.”

The country band's equipment is still at the scene of the mass shooting and will not be released by FBI investigators before this weekend.

"Everyone in our band and crew are safe," the band said on its Facebook page.

"I (Josh) had just left and was in the Mandalay Bay on the 20th floor with my fiancée during the shooting just a few floors away. The band & crew were on the concert grounds and saw people get shot. Some of my crew members were hit with shrapnel, but not injured. We are deeply disturbed by this horrific act of violence and send our thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families. It was a long awful night but we are blessed to be alive and healthy. Hug your loved ones tight."

The band was scheduled to play at Wolf Pen Creek in College Station Friday night.

On Saturday, they were set to play the Heart O' Texas Fair in Waco.
