KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) A few Killeen Police Officers spent their time along-side the Red Robins wait staff taking orders and raising funds for Special Olympics Texas.

The Red Robin's 12th Annual Tip a Cop event was held in Killeen and at more than 400 restaurants in 39 states.

The event helps raise money for the local Special Olympics Texas programs and supports more than one thousand athletes with intellectual disabilities.

It operates under the Law Enforcement Torch Run which is the largest fundraiser for Special Olympics Texas.

Killeen officers and other law enforcement agencies attended to customers.

McGruff the crime dog was also there to help out along with KPD law enforcement explorers.

Officer Wesley Kingsley says he enjoys being able to help out in the community.

"We live here. This is our community as well," Kingsley said.

"I think it's great seeing the kids and we got McGruff back here and of course, McGruff always lights up their eyes."

Officers Kingsley hopes that the event will make a difference in a family's life.
