KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) The Killeen ISD has renamed the field house at Killeen High School in honor of the district’s longtime trainer, who retired on May 31 after 57 years of working with student athletes.

The Killeen ISD Board voted Tuesday night to rename the fieldhouse in honor of Al “Doc” Wilson.

A banner was produced the next day.

Wilson decided in October 2017 that it was time to call it quits.

But he’s made it his mission to preserve the legacy of former classmates and their families, by helping the school’s booster club place bricks engraved with the graduation year and names that lead to the football field.

Wilson says it will take time to get used to his new life.
