Killeen: Retired police chief dies at 85

Services are Saturday for former Killeen police Chief Donald Ray Cannon, Sr., who died on Dec. 4 at the age of 85.

The service begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.

Cannon was a Fort Hood High School graduate who joined the Marine Corps, served a tour, and then returned home where he joined the Killeen Police Department in 1956.

He worked his way through the ranks and ultimately served as chief until 1970, when he left to become chief of the University of Texas Police Dept.

He retired in 1999.
