KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Central Texans with Puerto Rican roots are stepping in to help hundreds of families have been displaced in the aftermath of multiple earthquakes in Puerto Rico.

Robert Malavet and Jason Rivera started a Facebook page called "P.R. Project: You are not what you have, but what you give."

In just under two weeks, the group has raised more than $7,000 in relief funds to help displaced families.

The funds will go towards recreational vehicles the families can stay in while they rebuild their homes.

"We're not trying to be politicians," Malavet said.

"We're just trying to help the regular people. The simple people just living out there on baseball fields with no bathrooms."

The group's goal is to raise more than $65,000.
