Killeen police arrest man after lengthy pursuit

A wanted fugitive was taken into custody Saturday evening after a second lengthy pursuit through Killeen.

Killeen police say they received a vehicle pursuit call around 4:01 p.m. and joined in then.

The pursuit spanned across a large part of the city, including Clear Creek Road, Highway 190, and Rancier Avenue.

Spike strips were deployed multiple times.

At one point, police say a female was let out of the vehicle somewhere in the south side of town.

DPS troopers eventually disabled the vehicle on S. Fort Hood Street and Rancier Avenue, in front of Fort Hood's Frank W. Mayborn Gate.

The chase ended around 5:02 p.m. with a brief struggle as he tried to escape on foot, but was taken into custody.

The man, identified as 26-year-old Deon Clay, had several warrants for his arrest, including aggravated robbery, evading arrest in a vehicle and false statement to obtain credit.

Clay previously led authorities on a chase Friday, but evaded capture after the chase.

He was taken into custody without substantial force and was unarmed.

Nobody was injured during the pursuit.

No information on the female in the newest chase was available as of writing.

Killeen police, DPS, Texas Rangers, and the FBI participated in the chase.

On Friday, Clay had led police on a chase through Killeen, but evaded authorities.

During the first chase, he also let another female out of the car, who was later released by authorities.

He abandoned the car in that chase, which held a toddler inside who was uninjured.
