KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Killeen police Monday identified a man who died at a local hospital after officers found him lying in the road suffering from a gunshot wound as Curtis E. Shelley.

Officers were sent at around 2:10 p.m. to the 1000 block of Cedar Drive in Killeen in response to a report of the shooting, which apparently stemmed from an argument.

When police arrived they found Shelley in the roadway.

The “officers immediately started to perform life saving measures until paramedics arrived,” police said Monday.

Shelley was taken to Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center in critical condition.

He was pronounced dead just before 5 p.m. Sunday.

An autopsy was ordered.

“Through the investigation detectives were able to identify the parties involved and the investigation is ongoing,” police said.

The results of the investigation will be forwarded to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office, police said Monday.
