KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Fashion Week is off to a "haute" start in New York City, and a local veteran and business owner has made the trip to give some Central Texas style to fashion-goers.

Joy Kersey of "Enjoy Eyelash" set up shop at the Buy Black New York Fashion Week event held Sunday. The event is held to help encourage support for black-owned businesses during fashion week.

Kersey showcased her voluminous, runway-ready mink lashes and eyelash cases. She said she's hoping to encourage men and women not be afraid to be daring.

"Most women come in like, 'I don't know, maybe I can put them on, I've never worn lashes before," says Kersey.

"It doesn't matter who you are. Once you put those lashes on you go from (Kersey demonstrates a drab look) to 'oh, my God,' I didn't know I could look so beautiful.' It's always a wonderful thing, and I enjoy that the most," she adds.

Kersey spent 21 years in the Army before starting her company.
