KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Killeen’s Early College High School, whose first graduates next month will receive both high school diplomas and associate’s degrees, was recognized Thursday as a model campus.

Most of the school’s 153 graduating seniors earned associate’s degrees in conjunction with Central Texas College in Killeen.

"It's amazing that 100 percent of our inaugural class will be graduating with a high school diploma,” said senior class President Satchel Bellard.

"Of those 100 percent, though, only 93 percent will be graduating with a full associate's degree, all of them will have much more college credit hours than anyone at a normal traditional high school."

The program can save families around $30,000 in college costs.

Leaders from across the state praised the program in video massages during a campus visit by KISD officials Thursday morning.

The school is one of only three schools statewide to receive the honor.
