Lacy Lakeview police have arrested a man accused of kidnapping and choking his girlfriend.

Erick Navarro, 20, has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and assault.

Navarro was released from the McLennan County Jail after posting $60,000 in bonds, according to jail records.

According to LLPD Chief John Truehitt, the suspect's girlfriend managed to escape while her boyfriend was sleeping on Feb. 4.

She called 911 saying he'd been holding her captive, would hit her every time she tried to leave, and destroyed her phone, Truehitt said.

Detectives got a warrant and arrested Navarro the next day.

"After 32 years, I still don't understand why people stay in these relationships thinking that it's going to get's never going to get better until one of them ends up in jail, or the morgue, or both," Truehitt told KWTX.
