(KWTX) Two local law enforcement agencies were warning residents of phone scams Tuesday.

Temple police say employees of local businesses are receiving phone calls from people posing as the owner or senior manager of a company who ask that money be taken from the firm and placed onto prepaid money cards.

“The money card numbers are given over the phone, resulting in major losses to the company and no way to track down the suspects,” police said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office was warning that scammers are again posing as deputies and placing calls demanding fines, fees or court costs.

“If you receive one of these calls, do not give the scammers the money they demand,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
