An older man and his son were without a home Wednesday night after a fire destroyed the house in which they were living near the intersection of FM 2839 and FM 429 in Falls County near Golinda.

A neighbor says the fire departments responded shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Diane Rogers says by the time she got down the road to check, the house was engulfed in flames.

Volunteers from Golinda, Lott, Chilton, and Downsville all responded.

"The firefighters were doing their best to keep it from spreading to a barn and some nearby homes," Rogers said. "We were worried about the firefighters, we kept taking them water."

No one was home at the time of the fire.

"It's really sad, they said the house is a total loss. Everything they had in there is gone too." Rogers said.
