WACO, Texas (KWTX) Cameron Morris at Standard Hat Works in Waco has created several hats for members of the country music group Midland to wear at Sunday night’s award show.
The band, formed in Dripping Springs, and its members, Mark Wystrach, Jess Carson and Cameron Duddy, are nominated for Grammys for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song for “Drinkin’ Problem.”
Morris, who took over the business in 2013, wasn’t prepared to reveal the finished creations Wednesday.
Fans will have to wait until the show Sunday night to see them. he said.
Morris said he met one of the musicians about four years ago when the group was just starting out and since then has made several hats for the band members.
The former engineer, who says he is mostly self-taught, spends about 10 hours crafting a hat, from blocking and shaping to singing and putting on the finishing touches.
He says he's looking forward to seeing the hats he made worn by the performers, whom he calls just “good guys.”
So will he get a shout-out from the Red Carpet?
"I hope so. That would be very nice. They're usually generous guys,” he said.
“I mean if they don't, no hard feelings, but I will say they probably will be one of the most noticed bands and groups there because I know what they're going to be wearing and it's going to attract some attention."
The 60th Annual Grammy Awards show starts at 5:30 p.m. Sunday on CBS and KWTX.
