WACO, Texas (KWTX) Eighteen members of the Midway Goal Tenders, the dance team from Midway High School, were warming up Wednesday in New York City for an appearance in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

The team will perform second to last in the parade, followed by Santa Claus, introducing a new balloon dance and then splitting into columns for Santa to walk through, the team’s assistant director, Carrie Young said.

Temperatures were in the 40s Wednesday in the city, but aren’t expected to rise above freezing Thursday.

“We are leaving hotel now to purchase more cold weather gear for them to wear prior to performing,” Young said.

Twenty five of the 55 members of the Goal Tenders were chosen for a try out for the chance to perform in the parade during the American Drill Team School Dance camp held this summer at Midway.

Of the 25, 18 committed to raise the nearly $3,000 per girl needed in order to participate.

As a group the girls created a GoFundMe account and sold T-shirts, but most of the money they raised as individuals in a number of creative ways.

The girls will return on Nov. 23.
