“We’re very proud,” said Assistant Principal Joe Crownover.

“Last year they came in second and this year they finished at the top.”

The band first marched Tuesday morning and students at both the high school and junior high gathered to watch a live stream of the competition during school hours.

“We tried to stream it from UIL and the streaming didn’t work, but we had people on Facebook and whatever they do nowadays,” Crownover said, laughing.

Band members performed for a final time at 9 p.m. Tuesday and shortly thereafter was awarded the gold.

“They practice a lot. A couple of evenings a week. In the mornings before school,” Crownover said.

“They take it very seriously and the band director does a great job with them.”

A welcome home was planned for Wednesday afternoon

Supporters planned to line the road along State Highway 6 starting at FM 317 to Valley Mills High School.

The band won’t have long to celebrate before hitting the field again as the football team takes on Goldthwaite for the chance to go to the playoffs Friday night.
