Local high school softball team celebrates state title and honors loyal fan

CRAWFORD, Texas (KWTX) Just a few weeks ago the Crawford Lady Pirates were celebrating after winning their third state title in school history.

Friday night the players, coaches, and fans gathered for their annual banquet.

“It’s just a time for celebration,” says Head Coach Kirk Allen, “because you just don’t get enough time to celebrate on the field.”

Players were honored with awards and speeches throughout the night, but one surprise the team had was for their “Super Fan” Ray Anderson.

Mr. Anderson, a substitute teacher at the high school, has supported all of Crawford athletics through the years.

“He is a part of everything for us,” says Allen, “he has ridden the bus with us a lot of times, so it’s just a great chance to honor him tonight.”

The team gave Anderson a medal and players say they even pitched in to buy him his own state ring.

“You can’t describe him he is always there for you....he’s like everyone’s grandpa,” says Senior Cambree Aguirre.

Players say it was the least they could do for someone who supported them in a hard fought season.

“We are all about tradition and being able to be apart of that tradition is a great thing,” says Senior Avery Ward.
