Local high school student arrives for class with rifle in vehicle

A Gatesville High School student who forget to remove a .22 caliber rifle from a vehicle before driving to school Friday told a staff member and the unloaded weapon was secured without incident.
After the student reported the rifle, police were called and officers secured the weapon, Principal Yancey Sanderson said in a message to parents.
“The district applauds the student for self-reporting this information so administration could take swift action on securing the weapon and ensuring the safety of the student body,” Sanderson said in the message.
“Parents and students are reminded that guns on school grounds or buses are strictly prohibited. Moreover, students in violation of such incidents will have consequence according to the GISD code of conduct,” he said.
