HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas (KWTX) A Harker Heights hotel was evacuated Tuesday after a fire suppression sprinkler pipe burst because of the below freezing temperature.

Harker Heights firefighters responded just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to the Super 8 Hotel at 540 East Central Texas Expressway.

Water to the hotel has been turned off and the hotel is closed temporarily so repairs can be made.

Temperatures remained below freezing throughout the day Tuesday in Central Texas.

A hard freeze warning is in effect overnight throughout Central Texas and temperatures as low as 10 degrees are possible.

But afternoon highs Wednesday should be slightly above freezing under a sunny sky, which could lead to the discovery of other pipe breaks throughout the region.

Forecasters advise residents to leave faucets dripping as long as temperatures remain below freezing.
