A teacher and coach with the Cameron Independent School District has been charged with indecency with a child, Cameron police said Monday.

Timothy James Lohr, 39, of Temple was arrested on Aug. 10 at his place of business in Temple.

According to police, the incident which led to Lohr’s arrest happened while he was a district employee.

Lohr was a girls’ basketball coach at the Junior High School, according to the school’s website.

He worked for the district from Aug. 15, 2016 until he resigned "of his own accord" on Jan. 3, Superintendent Alan Sapp said in a statement Monday.

"At the time of his resignation, Cameron ISD administration was unaware of any alleged inappropriate conduct involving the former employee and therefore, had no reason to issue statements related to such," he said.

"Cameron ISD would like to reassert the district’s foremost commitment to providing a safe learning environment for all students," he said.

Indecency with a child is a second-degree felony.

No other details were released.
