“During the argument, the victim was struck with a hammer and killed,” Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Officers found the victim dead after responding to a report of a disturbance at around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday at 1205 East Calhoun.

Police did not immediately release the victim’s name, but family members identified him as Michael Washington, 56.

Officers arrested David Johnson, 55, who was named in several outstanding warrants.

Johnson was in the McLennan County Jail Tuesday afternoon charged with murder.

He’s also named in a Tarrant County warrant charging assault causing bodily injury and in a parole violation warrant, according to online jail records.

His bond had not been set.

Neighbor Jory Pullan said he knew Washington for years.

"I would never expect that to happen in a neighborhood basically that's like family oriented," he said.

"We were all raised up together," he said.

"Man, it's hard to believe believe that happened to him."
