Luke Tyrel Byrd, 26, was in the McLennan County Jail Wednesday, charged with sexual assault of a child after a 15-year-old Hewitt girl told her mother she’d been having sex with the mother’s boyfriend for almost a year.

Byrd is also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief, and retaliation.

His bonds total $28,000.

According the arrest affidavit, the victim told her mother she'd been having sex with her mother's boyfriend since March of 2018, and most recently on Feb. 10.

The victim underwent a forensic interview following the outcry to her mother, who reported the rape to police, the affidavit says.

Byrd was first arrested on Feb. 10 after the girl’s mother was threatened with a handgun, police say.

The sexual assault of a child charge was added Tuesday while Byrd was held on the other charges against him.
