KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Killeen police Tuesday identified a rookie officer whose weapon discharged in a confrontation with an unarmed local man wanted on a parole warrant as Jose Rosado.
Rosado, a probationary officer hired in 2018, remains on administrative leave.
The incident happened after Rosado and other officers responded at around 11:15 a.m. Sunday to a report of a criminal trespass at the Holiday Terrace Motor Hotel at 1708 East Veterans Memorial Boulevard.
The suspect, whom police identified Tuesday as Jason Wayne Brooks, 42, fled as officers arrived, but was found on Terrace Drive.
“During the confrontation, the officer gave several commands to the suspect, when the officer discharged his firearm,” police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said in a press release Monday evening.
No one was injured.
“The department will conduct two separate investigations of this incident,” Miramontez said, “one by the Criminal Investigation Division and another by the Internal Affairs Unit.”
Brooks was in the Bell County Jail Tuesday charged with evading arrest or detention.
Bond on the charge was set at $3,000.
He's held without bond on the parole warrant.
No further details were released.
