Local officer kicked in face by man she was trying to help
Lacy Lakeview police Sgt. Amanda Leka was recovering Wednesday after a man she was trying to help kicked her in the face.
Just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, Leka was dispatched to assist East Texas Medical Center paramedics who were responding to a call involving a person who evidently was having a psychotic episode.
The man, who later tested positive for amphetamine and opioids, was combative and in danger of injuring himself or others, police said in a Facebook post.
Leka and three other officers managed to secure the man and take him to a local hospital.
But as she and four other officers worked to secure him in the emergency room, the man “purposefully and forcefully kicked Sergeant Leka squarely in her face causing severe pain and bleeding,” the Facebook post says.
Leka, a wife and mother, was treated at the hospital and “has a lot of pain, bruising and discoloration, but will hopefully make a full recovery and return to duty on the job she loves,” police said in the post.
She’s “one tough and strong police officer,” the post said.
