ROBINSON, Texas (KWTX) A local officer has retired after nearly three decades serving with the same Central Texas police department.

Lieutenant Jeff Lewellen spent 28 of his 30 years in law enforcement with the Robinson Police Department where he officially retired last week.

“Lieutenant Lewellen served the community of Robinson for 28 years. That length of service at one agency is so impressive,” said Chief Phillip Prasifka.

“It was privilege to serve as Jeff’s police chief for the last sixteen months. He made my job easier.”

A reception was held at city hall for employees and family members of the officer, which included his wife and son, to celebrate the officer’s career.

The chief also presented the longtime employee with a plaque to recognize his service.

"He is a man of character. He has been a mentor and a leader for the organization. He was always willing to take on whatever challenges were given to him.," the chief said.

"Lieutenant Lewellen will be greatly missed."
