A homeless man charged with murder in the death of a local woman and her adult son struck the two with his truck and then backed over or ran into each of them twice, an arrest affidavit released Wednesday says

Darrell Gene Holloway, 60, is charged with murder in the hit-and-run run late Friday night that claimed the lives of Maria Marta Garza, 51, and her son Pedro Danny Garza, 33.

He’s jailed in lieu of $700,000 bond.

A witness told police that he “observed a truck rev its engine and then run over someone” and that he then “observed the truck run over two people and back over or run into each person twice.”

The accident happened at around 11 p.m. Friday at the intersection of South 1st Street and West Avenue O in Temple.

Holloway, whom jail records describe as homeless, was arrested after returning to the accident scene about 20 minutes later.
