WEST, Texas (KWTX) The West ISD issued a statement Monday aimed at debunking rumors that a student was seriously injured during a senior prank.

Students were throwing water balloons at around 7:50 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of West High School when a boy ran between parked cars and into the path of a vehicle whose driver, also a student, was looking for a parking space, West Superintendent David Truitt said in the statement.

“To try to avoid hitting the side of the car, the male student jumped on the hood of the car and damaged the windshield,” he said.

“Both students were examined by the school nurse, discussed the incident with the campus principal and returned to class,” he said.

The district also notified the parents of the two students, he said.

"As always, the safety and security of our students is our number one priority," said Truitt.

"The District will continue to work closely and discuss with our students more appropriate and safe ways to celebrate the end of the school year."
