Waco middle school teacher Daniel Murany resigned Friday after video surfaced that shows him carrying a desk in which a student is sitting of out the door of a portable classroom and dumping both on the building’s porch.
The boy’s father said his son was injured in the incident.
Murany, who taught social studies and served as a coach, according to the school’s online directory, was placed on administrative leave on Thursday.
"Certainly the video shows very clearly what happened and left no doubt for us that this was just unacceptable,” Waco ISD spokesman Kyle DeBeer said Friday.
The video was recorded on a cellphone by another student in the teacher’s class at Tennyson Middle School.
Members of the boy’s family say they’re talking to a lawyer.
"We are not happy that in a place, a school, where we thought our son was safe, he was treated this way,” the family said in a statement to KWTX.
“He hurt his back and ankle.”
The family commented on condition of anonymity to protect the student’s privacy.
District officials have talked with the boy’s family about the incident, DeBeer said.
"Certainly we're concerned and we continue to be in communication with the family because we want to make sure that the student is OK.”
